I offer piano lessons to beginning students of all ages. I work at each
individual students' pace. I place emphasis on music theory so the student
understands how music works, encouraging them to improvise and create on
their own.
If you are interested in lessons, please contact me to schedule a "meet and
greet" appointment. It is not a lesson and there is no charge, the purpose is for
me to meet the parent and/or student and for them to meet me and spend some
time getting to know each other. I try to keep it at around 30 minutes. I have
found it makes the first lesson go much smoother because the student is more
familiar with the surroundings and me.
Lessons are $15 for each 30 minute lesson, books are extra.
Here's just a short story of how I got started with the piano. My parents
took me out of public school and enrolled me in a new Baptist school after
the sixth grade (man, that was a LONG time ago). A teacher there offered
piano lessons during school hours so I asked my parents if I could take the
lessons. My dad was afraid I would not stick with it so he would not buy a
piano so my mother arranged for me to practice every evening at our church,
she faithfully drove me there everyday to practice. We did that for about a
year and a half before my father decided to go ahead and buy a piano. Had it
not been for my mother's faithfulness and dedication and encouragement I
wouldn't have ever stuck with it.
Lessons should be enjoyed, not a scary or stressful time for a new piano
student. I try my best to work at each student's individual pace while
encouraging them to move ahead in learning. As a teacher, my role is to
encourage learning, not frustration.
